In 1902 I was offered, and accepted, the appointment of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hongkong.

Since then I have twice acted as Captain Superintendent of Police, for a year each time.

I have been thirty-one years in the Public Service, having obtained my Commission in the Army in 1878.

I have served for eighteen years in the Police. years in the Straits Settlements twelve years in the Malay States, and six years in Hongkong .

I consider that my experience in Hongkong adds material-

ly to my qualification for the Appointment now vacant.

I have passed an examination in Malay.

I received the thanks of the Secretary of State for my servicegin Pahang.

I would be glad of a personal interview if it can be arranged, before I leave for the East on the 15th instant.
